Uploading Account and Transactions automatically

One of my users made a comment about how painful it is to add an account manually and he mentioned that it would be a lot easier to do so automatically. I wanted to clarify that this feature is already in place and active.

To automatically upload account information and its transactions, download a QIF or OFX file from your bank or application and upload. Financify will automatically generate an account name, create that account and upload all the transactions from within that file into the new account.

If you click on the accounts tab - there is a link to Upload New Account on the right menu and the same applies to account transactions, there is a link on the right menu to  Upload New Transactions. NOTE: Financify will double check all transactions for duplicate and ignore those. i.e if the file has a transaction with the same name, amount and date, then it will simply skip that transaction to prevent double entry.

Launch date set

I'm almost at a stable point. I'm hoping to launch on the 1st  or 6th of next month. I spent the past weeks cleaning things up and preparing for the launch. This will be a preliminary launch and it will only contain the basics, the application will be updated with more features as time flies. I've also removed all the fields that could possible tie someone to an account, my goal is to build the system in such a way that the data is completely anonymous - for security reasons off course!

To sign up for an account, all you will need is an email and password, some personal information were removed or eliminated such as first name, last name, account numbers - security comes first. On launch anyone should be able to create a free account, upload/add transactions and view reports.

1. Tagging has been implemented but with minimal functionality.
2. Categories are still being used but for internal purposes only.
3. Reports will be based on categories

Application Updates

  1. Small business features will not be integrated in the first release and that's because the amount of requests for those features are not enough to start the venture. Again - we will be able to add small business features once the application goes live.
  2. No more categories - you will not be able to assign categories to your transactions anymore. Tagging is the new way to go. You can now tag all transactions with one or more tags and filter by tags. I believe tagging is much more flexible than categories.
  3. Multiple users and groups have been eliminated from this release. Currently there is no need for multiple user access to the application, however, if the need arises in the future we will be more than happy to turn it on.
  4. E-Bills - You can now add payees and e-bills with reminders.
  5. Free account - a free account will now be available. We are still working out the limitations.
  6. Auto categorization OFF - no more auto categorization since we will now be switching to tagging.
  7. Launch Date - target is July 2nd but no promises.

Small business features

I've been getting a lot of vibe about small business tools, everyone wants some form of business tool, however, since financify was suppose to be all personal, I had no plans on doing anything of that nature but again my users could be sole proprietors and/or small business entrepreneurs and that leads to personal finance management. So I'm open to suggestions, email or post to this blog your list of small business tools that you would like to see on financify. I'll prioritize them and see what I can knock out before the first launch.

Introduction

Hi all, If this is the first time you've heard of financify you may be baffled on what it means and what it is all about. It's pretty simple, financify is a simple web personal money management tool. I've tried quicken, money, etc... and they are simply too complex and contain too many dummy features that I've never used and probably never will.

One day I decided to build one - an application that will take in the necessities and respond with what the user wants using simple & easy methods. Financify was born! Financify is a simple finance management tools that will take in your transactions manually or from your downloaded bank statements, spit out simple results/reports and allow the you to easily manage your day to day income and expenses.

I've been asked several times on the status of the project - its coming. However, I'll keep posting the status on this blog as it comes along. Watch out for a few teaser screenshots.
